At Hall High School in Spring Valley Illinois it seems that sports are far more important that Academics and the Arts. Traveling to; hallhighschool.org is all the proof that is needed to prove my premise. Sports gets all the support glory, the praise and by far the bulk of funding while the Academics and Arts are starved of attention,respect, and funding. School is about the kids and how we teach them to become learned & well-rounded critical thinkers. While sports does have a role it should never be the primary purpose of the school or overshadow the art of teaching. Consistantly and overwhelmingly our kids are out-performed by children all over the world and these are some of the main reasons. Lack of concern,effort, and priority to the purpose of schools. Our schools are not about insignifcant and fleeting W/L records but about the students and the quality of education they are given. We need everyone at the School Board, within the community, and those who are in the School Administration to redirect the educational priorities to where it belongs; to the under-emphasized Academics and the Arts. Sports on the other hand should always play a diminshed and subserviant role. Because isn't school really about the student and not about the school? It's about the quality of their education.
