We the undersigned are asking that you return funding back to our schools! School Districts have spent the last few years making deep cuts. Band, art, extra curricular activities, business, AP, and other college level courses have been disappearing at a rapid rate. This year the cuts are hitting even deeper, common core teachers are being cut and class sizes are doubling. None of the above cuts will help the New York State education system, in fact these cuts are destroying the system. Students applying to colleges are being turned down or wait listed because their course loads did not contain enough college level courses or electives. Graduating students that do get accepted are foregoing four year schools for two year community colleges due to lack of money. Many students are now stopping at a two year degree to avoid starting their adult lives in debt. Students are being deprived of a well rounded education. How will this benefit the future of New York State? We could miss out on the student that has a cure for cancer, but wasn't given the AP Biology class to find out this is their calling. The percentage of lower class will rise due to a lack of a higher education and this will greatly impact the future of New York. State test scores are low do the the New York State board of education constantly changing curriculums. Children are being taught how to multiply fractions one way one year and the next they have to do it a different way. This inconsistency is sucking the funding from schools. Teachers are out of the classroom for training, new text books are needed to meet the new criteria, extra administrators are needed to guide the curriculum needs, school districts can't keep up with these expenses! We ask that you take any non essential grants or funds and reinvest in our schools! You have expected the taxpayers to tighten their belts, now it is your turn! Education is a need, not a want. It is time to act now and make the best investment, one that will certainly yield a high return! Restore funding to schools so students can be educated, this is the only way to ensure a brighter future for New York State!
