Public school 19 once served the residents of the 10705 zip code area of Yonkers. The building was the focal point of the neighborhood as teachers and organizers often helped host the gathering of community events. Unfortunately the school closed in the early 1990âs and has since been a vacant and deteriorating structure. The property is rarely maintained and it poses an environmental as well as a social threat to the neighborhood.
We propose to renovate PS 19 and institute an educational system in the form of a charter school. This charter school will offer an education to high school students in the field of mathematics. Such development would help ease the classroom population at other public schools within the district. The goals of this project are to 1) transform a vacant building to an education center. 2) to develop and provide a charter school which will prepare high school students for a college level education and beyond.
