At a meeting with students, Haywood High School Principal Dorothy Bond pointed to gay students in the audience and said, "If you're gay, you're going to hell."
Bond has a history of making homophobic remarks to students. At an assembly, she once told a male student who had his hair in braids that he "must be gay." According to Tony Snipes, the father of this student, Bond's statements have made it clear that gay students aren't welcome at the high school. "That's not her role. Her role as educator, as principal, is to encourage them regardless of their circumstances or situations," Snipes says.
Act now to let the Haywood County School District know that Bond's comments are inappropriate and unacceptable. Tell them to fire Bond for her discriminatory remarks.
