PLEASE Join us in communicating our wish to delay the start of the 2012-2013 school year until August 22nd.
The currently proposed August 14th start date will:
- Force our teachers and children to teach and learn in potentially unbearably hot conditions (if the temperature goes above 90 degrees PE and outdoor time is cancelled.)
- Limit our teachers' ability to work at summer programs that are essential to their incomes due to incompatibility with the schedule of most California summer programs.
- Limit our children’s access to summer enrichment programs and camps.
- Limit the childcare options available to working parents due to scheduling conflicts with existing summer programs.
- Shorten this years’ summer vacation by three full weeks.
A start date of August 22 will meet the goal of having high school students complete final exams before the December holidays, AND PRESERVE AS MUCH OF SUMMERTIME AS POSSIBLE.
