The IVC School Board is considering a proposal to require high school students in all extracurricular and co-curricular activities, as well as those with parking passes, to agree to submit to random drug testing without cause. Students who refuse to be tested would be banned from all activities.
Students should not have to surrender constitutional rights in order to participate in traditional, wholesome after-school activities. That they are guilty until proven innocent just because of their age and involvement in activities is not the message we think the schools should be sending to students.
Don't let the IVC School Board approve this plan. Tell them that there are better, more productive, and more respectful ways to prevent drug use among our students, such as increasing participation in activities.
