This School for slum dwelling children, is under threat of closure due to lack of funding. Please help us to raise awareness and sign this petition, so these beautiful children can get the care they deserve

In a city called Baddi, many slum-dwelling children are being deprived of basic human rights. Their “migrant worker” parents are important to the local economy, yet the children are failing to receive basic care and protection.

Whilst volunteering in Sahyog Project School for slum dwelling children, it became apparent that wider support was in desperate need as conditions were really very poor. The two small, dark school rooms were not adequate for use by the 70 or so pupils and two teachers. Some improvements were made during my time at the school but the lack of hygiene was a real problem.

This school had been supported by Cadbury since December 2008, but the funding has been failing to reach the school since October 1st, 2012.

The Rural Centre for Human Interest (RUCHI) whose main focus is on water preservation and the environment, have set the school project up and are struggling to continue funding it as outside funding has failed to reach the school. Research is continuing into why this funding had not come through and all efforts are being made to remedy this situation.

This Non-Formal Education Program needs on average £16,250 every year to continue. A small amount in comparison to schools in the West.

For a decent school building: £188 per month, on rental basis.
Teacher's salary: £88 per month for two teachers (minimum) and two days training per person:
£38

You are invited to support us in lobbying the Department of Elementary Education
in Himachal Pradesh, North India, to uphold and defend the rights of children to receive elementary education.

Fund raising events are underway, to raise money for improving basic conditions at the school and for lobbying local government to fulfil their commitments to their education policy.
