PETITION TO CHANGE UNFAIR GRADING PROCESS

Petition Summary: JWCC 2013 LPN STUDENTS make the following statements:

IN OUR NUR 123 THEORY CLASS, EXAM 01, MORE THAN HALF OF OUR CLASS HAS FAILED THIS TEST. IN THE PAST WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE RETAUGHT AND TO RETAKE AND OR BE GRADED ON A CURVE IN SIMILAR SITUATIONS… IN ADDITION, WE WERE NOT GIVEN CREDIT FOR QUESTIONS THAT ARE DEEMED “BAD QUESTIONS” THAT HAVE BEEN THROWN OUT YET ANSWERED CORRECTLY. TEST SHOULD ALSO ONLY CONSIST OF A MAXIMUM OF 50 QUESTIONS, AS STATED IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK.

We are requesting a change to a new and current grading process, by suggesting three options.

Option 1: If for any reason 50% or more of the student body fails an examination, we will get a second chance to be taught and retested and or to be graded on a curve, as has been done in the past!

Option 2: If test questions are excluded from a test, for whatever reason, after the test has been taken and the student gets the correct answers than that student will receive the points in which they have fairly earned, as has also been done in the past.

Option 3: Examinations will be thoroughly evaluated by both Instructors and Director BEFORE an exam is given to students so that the need to throw out “bad test questions” will become an obsolete issue. And no questions on any examination should be thrown out at any time.
