Urey Middle School has a program called ZAP. It means Zero's Aren't Permitted. What is a zero in the education system, it is an "F". But if you serve a ZAP for not completing homework, even if you only did not complete a few problems, instead of getting a grade for what you did do, they send you to ZAP and give you 50% of the grade. 50% in the education system is an "F". We are setting our children up for failure; which explains why Urey Middle School is a "D" rated school instead of an "A" rated school like North Liberty Elementary. Kids are also being zapped for work that was due durring a previous greading period. Some kids are being double ZAPed if they have been ill and have more then 10 pieces of homework to make up. They have to give up a special to sit in ZAP just to receive more "F"s. I would like to see the ZAP program abolished and new administrative personal put into place that will take the education of our children seriously.
