Save the Landscape Program!

The Landscape Program at Mstate is far more than its title.  The students learn about proper placement of plants in the landscape, the science of plant structure, and up-to-date creative sustainable strategies in building a landscape.  When people think of a landscape, they think of plants around a foundation of a home or commercial building, though this is true, we are also experiencing a time when progressing to new ways of greening our lifestyle is becoming important. Living walls, green roofs, rain gardens, and xeriscaping are all new growing areas which this program does not over look.

If you ever visit the Mstate Moorhead Campus, you will see a beautiful display of plants indoors and outdoors.  This has been voluntary work performed from former and present students from this program as well as student workers for the program in maintaining it's appearance.  This program not only benefits the students enrolled through hands on experience and education, it is also benefitting the entire student body and faculty members of the Moorhead Campus.  We help filter the air, lower anxiety levels before a big test, and help lower days lost of class time through illness by maintaining a healthier environment.

Through a business perspective, this program has a respectively high graduation rate as well as former students finding work in various fields such as: floral design, major landscape installation, to even owning their own business.  Others have found a new passion for the field as they continue their education through a university.  Also, in our area we have a booming housing development growth rate.  Now more than ever, we are in need of educated landscapers.  From what any typical person can observe- where there is new construction, landscape follows.

Due to budget cuts, this program is scheduled to be closed after May 2013, making this year it's final year.  We encourage you to sign this petition and support saving this program and contunie to push forward the direction for better lifestyles that could benefit other generations for years to come.
