A new study by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN) shows that anti-LGBT bullying is clearly underway among students as early as 3rd grade. Yet less than half of elementary school teachers feel comfortable answering students' questions about gay, lesbian, and bisexual people, and only 23 percent have been trained to talk about families with LGBT parents.

At the same time, a new training video created by Welcoming Schools has been developed to train elementary school teachers on LGBT issues, including how to protect students from bullying. Welcoming Schools is in the process of reaching out to schools in the D.C. metro area to provide the film to elementary school teachers.

Sign now to ask Chancellor Henderson to adopt the film as part of training for all elementary teachers in the D.C. public school system. Empowering teachers to speak about LGBT issues and same-sex parents helps teachers stop the bullying that endangers so many children.
