Urge Miriam College to Change Date/ Month of Alumni Homecoming to the month of December

Subject:  Let MC be inclusive and allow more MC Alumni “balikbayans” to participate in the Alumni Homecoming Celebration

Dear President Rosario Oreta Lapus:

During these hard economic times,  it does not make sense for a balikbayan to pay for two roundtrip tickets to participate in 2 events that are months apart. When deciding when to go home for a vacation,  a balikbayan will most likely go home in December to celebrate the holidays with family than to go in September to attend an Alumni Homecoming Celebration.   BUT, if the Alumni Homecoming celebration is moved to December, a balikbayan MC Alumni can participate in the Filipino Christmas festivities & the school homecoming which will make for a genuine HOMECOMING!

Changing the month when the Miriam College Alumni Homecoming is celebrated from September to December will increase the number of MC Graduates/ Alumni residing outside the Philippines to participate in this meaningful, school spirit filled event. For most balikbayan members of the MC Alumni, the best time to come home to the Philippines is during the holidays in December when they can join the festivities & experience, once again in their homeland, the Filipino celebration of Christmas & New Year.

While September has been the traditional month when the Alumni Homecoming is held, September is also the month that school starts in the United States and other countries which makes it difficult for MC Alumni to leave their children in their current country of residence in order to attend the homecoming celebration in the Philippines.  At the same time, September is also the month that in recent years have shown a more active hurricane season in the Philippines leading to flooding in the major highways of Manila.

An increase in attendance by the MC Alumni in the Homecoming celebration results in increased camaraderie, increased school spirit and pride, and consequentially, increased donations & funding for the various projects of the MC community.

We urge you to consider our petition  and move the celebration of the Alumni Homecoming to the month of December, to enact a spirit of inclusion that would accommodate & consider the  MC Alumni community now residing outside the Philippines to participate in the MC Alumni Celebration.  This is a request that comes from the hearts of MC graduates who wish to be home for Christmas and be home with their Alma Mater.

Thank you for your  time & consideration.
