No Fees for Back on Track Remedial Measures in Ontario

The Back on Track remedial measures program is designed to educate drivers who were conficted of Impaired driving offences. While the mandatory Back on Track Program itself is not a reason for the petition, the cost of the program is. Most people don't have the kind of funds they are asking for this program, in order to get their licences back. They offer no payment plans, and in some cases the driver is required to instal an Interlock device as well, that again costs well into the hundreds of dollars. So many driver who cannot afford this program, have opted to just drive while their licence is suspended. And when caught, face jail time of up to a year on a first offence. This not only puts more pressure on the court system, but also the cost of incarceration for a person for whatever their sentence may be. It would be more cost efficient for the mandatory course to be free, and allow low income individuals to participate rather that take the chance of driving while under suspension simply because they cannot afford the course.
