Survey For Exempting Current Dunlap Middle School Students from Redistricting Implementation

The Dunlap redistricting plan implementation requires 79 currently enrolled middle school students to switch middle schools for their last one or two years.

Projected enrollment data obtained from the schools shows the capacity flexibility to retain these students within their current learning environment. Therefore, we respectfully request a limited exception to the redistricting implementation, providing students the option to stay in their current middle school.

To do so would eliminate a large disparity in overall enrollment at each school (DVMS: 333 students vs. DMS: 575 students), reduce district expenditures to hire more teachers and coaches at DMS due to the enrollment surge, and decrease inequities in the extracurricular arena.

Most importantly, it is in the best interests of the students' psychosocial development to continue their relationships and identities with their established school, teams, teachers and peers during these critical developmental years.

We are contacting a large percentage of the families impacted by the implementation. The following survey results will summarize the position of those families. (Parents and students: please sign and indicate your position in the comment section).

Respectfully submitted,

Tom and Cheryl Bluth, Trent and Julie Fairfield, Paul and Kristen Fields, Ryan and Suzi Finkenbine, Sam and Beth Girard, Kris and Bucky Jockisch, Kevin and Tracy Pogue, Steven and Cathy McKown, Ken and Marli Meiss, Jon and Andrea Reick, Steve and Kim Roegge, Dennis and Linda Smith, parents of impacted Dunlap middle school students.
