Don't fire BART Employee Jim Stanek for Showing Compassion!

A San Francisco 16-year old sure had a lot of strikes against him. He'd lost his father. His grades in public school had taken a nose dive. And the $11 for a round trip to a charter school where he was succeeding academically was cost prohibitive for the young man's adoptive family. Who will stick up for somebody like that when the system lets him down?

Jim Stanek did. Stanek, a Bay Area Rapid Transit employee, saw a need and collected $300 in unused train tickets which he gave the young man to help him get to school. Now Stanek is looking at a forced early retirement. Turns out BART considers Stanek's attempt to help a struggling teenager a crime.

Those tickets would have been discarded otherwise. If the transportation authority can't issue a travel scholarship to help a student in need, at least it can support Stanek's decision to help.  Tell BART not to fire Stanek for showing a little compassion!
