I believe that Nova Southeastern University, a private school with more than 25,000 students and faculty members, would be contributing with the environment by reducing the use of paper. If we decide to move to online versions, the amount of trees saved and carbon emissions reduced would significantly help slow down global warming. Here are some facts that show how destructive the use of paper is:
- "The average college student produces 640 pounds of solid waste each year, including 500 disposable cups and 320 pounds of paper".
- "The value assumes that the user is printing on standard A4 or Letter sheets and one sheet equals 4.5g CO2".
-"The manufacturing cost per sheet is 17Wh".
By making this change and encouraging students and faculty members to move to online versions and use e-mail more often, we would place Nova Southeastern University as a role model for other colleges nationwide.
