Georgia has misspent millions of tax dollars on improving instructional quality in the state's public schools--with almost no results. According to a detailed study published in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Georgia is still plagued with poorly educated and trained teachers who, once they are in the system, are rarely fired.
This problem has a solution, just not one the state wants to face. Georgia's Department of Education needs to:
- -raise teacher certification standards
- -develop a fair system for identifying and dismissing underperforming teachers within two years of their initial employment AND
- -emphasize classroom management techniques that actually work in teacher training opportunities.
