I went to Cass Technical High School in the '50's. It was one of the BEST Schools in the country. Why not learn from PREVIOUS successes? We need more TECHNICAL schools that would inspire students to go on to college. Or, if nothing else, at least get decent jobs after high school? We are at the bottom of the barrel in Detroit. Where are all the innovative and creative brains in Detroit?
Where is all the money from the Lottery ? That is earmarked to go to EDUCATION! Empty the prisons of all Marijuana infractions. Those are arcane laws that can produce NEW industries, clothing, Paper Manufacturing, Rope, and who knows what else? The loss of 52% of all inmates in prison, the Taxes on contolling Marijuana and the Medical benefits would more than fund Education, Rehabilitation as part of the solution and thousands of NEW jobs for the unemployed here in Michigan. We have more prisoners here in this country than ANY other country in the WORLD! (7,200,000) in comparison to about 15% of our inmates in the next largest imprisoner in the world of how many we incarcerate.
Take some lessons of the past from CASS Tech. When you left there, the World was your oyster. Scholarships abounded, Jobs were plentiful, opportunities gave us Freedom. Let's bring this state and city of Detroit as the Forefront of Innovation, not ridicule.
