Recent studies have shown that a fifth of Americans are unable to locate the U.S. on a world map. This tragedy is only made possible by the fact that many children from South Africa, Iraq and the Asian Countries don't have access to maps.
I believe that the world map is an important part of a person's cultural heritage; it comes to define our social geography and forms the borders of our identity. Change has to start somewhere, we can't let our South African commrades down.
Canada is one of the world's largest producers of maps. In a country where maps are as plentiful as ours, it's easy to overlook the fact that so many children go without maps each day.
This is why we need to pressure President Jacob Zuma, president of South Africa, to take a good look at the distribution of maps across his nation. As the leader of his country, it's his job to ensure each and every citizen has equal access to maps.
No child should be left beyond the borders.
