For almost a year our tight knit and vibrant community has been working to keep our neighborhood school open. We stopped the school from being closed at the end of the last school year and have been working diligently to convince the school system to not only keep it opened going forward but to treat it as the great resource for the city that it is.
For 6 months we've tried to arrange a meeting with the school chancellor, usually through elected officials and we have been let down. Finally, we have requested the meeting with the chancellor directly and have gotten no response.
Our efforts are to keep the school that our children walk to every day. But, we also know that this school is our neighborhood's anchor. It's where we vote and hold community meetings. The loss of our school will destabilize our neighborhood, forcing our older residents and working families to leave. So, you can see we are also working to save our neighborhood.
