Take a pay cut to help your students!

Why should Columbia College President Warrick Carter make a yearly salary of nearly $396,000 when enrollment at Columbia has declined and some Columbia students report they cannot even afford housing? This question was raised during a heated "State of the College" meeting where Carter told one student "Don't blame me because you are [homeless]" and simply told another student to "Shut up."

Carter's response to legitimate student concerns is simply unacceptable. With enrollment at Columbia dropping from 12,500 to 11,000 in the last few years, how can he possibly justify a salary of $396,000 when students are living on the streets? When the question of his salary is raised, Carter hides behind the college's board of trustees who determine his salary. However, that certainly does not absolve a university president from helping his students however he can. Tell President Carter to return half of his salary to Columbia students, prioritizing those with extreme hardships such as homelessness.
