Tens of thousands of college students and their sympathizers, including families and faculty, filled the streets of downtown Montreal to protest a five-year tuition hike approved by the Canadian government. Though protesters paralyzed traffic, they were so peaceful, local police actually complimented them on their organization. Though Canadian college tuition remains low in comparison to tuition costs in the United States, the projected hikes of $325 a year will cause Quebec tuition to double in five years. Students believe that the aid which reaches only around a third of them will not compensate for the tuition hike. They further believe their education will come with a difficult debt burden. Tell Premier Jean Charest you stand with the Canadian students and their supporters in their concern over rising tuition!
