Attached is an email on what Knob district plans to do with 5th graders... if your kid is in 5th now it affects them too they will be sticking them with the 7th and 8th in their hallways... instead of their own. It means overcrowding for all the middle school and it means our small 4th graders will be sent without preparation to the middle school... they don't even plan on advising parents!!! But if we don't call the school and the District office we can not make them change this! Please send this to all those who have kids at Knob Elem and Whiteman Elem!!!
Letter sent to a concerned parent:
It is true the district is "exploring" the possibility of moving the 5th
grade to the middle school. But the decision has not been made. The reasons for possibly moving the 5th grade is multifaceted. Space, teaching resources, scheduling, program opportunities are just a few benefits of moving. I would encourage you to meet with your current building principal to voice your concerns and gain information about the issue. I believe they will be able to shed some light and ease some anxiety about the possible move.
Thank you for being an advocate for your children.
Sincerely,
John Hays
This letter states that this means more program opportunities for the kids but does it? This means no field day, no harvest day, no 5th grade music program, no PTO so no Fun Nights, no reading programs... Recess in an open field with no equipment & no basketball courts and if it rains then what? They will not be able to participate in the sports, dances or band there... they would have to hire a choir teacher as well because as of now no music. No awards for Honor Roll or perfect attendance. Different maturity levels... do we really want our 4th graders in middle school a year early? This also means they would be exposed to the middle school library and no longer have the innocent age appropriate books offered at the elementary schools. Is this really what we want for our children? This is Bad News!! We need to get the word out to other parents. I am hoping that parents will bombard their schools Principles and sign this petition so we can get it to the School District office and speak our mind. Please pass it on and help get the word out regardless of if your kid will be affected by this next year it is important.
