In a stunning move, the Western Regional body of the ACCJC (Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges) will close down City College of San Francisco by next summer, July 2014, by stripping it of its accreditation.
This is an outrageous attack on our college, on public higher education, and on affordability and accesibility. Where will our 100,000 students go -- to the for-profits, where they will load up with debt?
The very values that City College stands for are the ones that the ACCJC has demanded that it change:
Low tuition ($46 per credit), including some free classes
Good working conditions for faculty, including part-timers (job security, benefits, decent pay)
Strong and broad adult non-credit mission, top-ranked vocational/technical programs
Unionized faculty
Elected department chairs
Broad local city support, as show in the recent Prop A parcel tax vote

Come join the demonstration July 9, 4 pm, starting at the CCSF Downtown Center (88 Fourth Street and Mission) and march to the US Department of Education offices at 50 Beale Street.
Will you be there?
