Ontario Parents Demand a Return to Classroom Standards of Excellence in 2014

Parents of elementary and secondary students are aware of, and concerned about, the education our children are being consigned to. In recent years, the Province of Ontario's Ministry of Education has deemed it "Inappropriate" to make spelling tests and cursive writing Mandatory for students. As detailed In a recent newspaper article, "Handwriting has gone the way of the quill"...when asked to sign their name to a Drivers License test form, Passport Application or Job Application, most students are not prepared or able to do so in handwriting...they simply haven't been taught to do so.
Further, where have Manners and Rules of Social Engagement gone? Will our young people be able to greet one another in work situations or travel abroad, if they cannot learn these skills in the classroom? Living in today's Global world demands that we respect and learn about social norms.
We are asking that All Ontario parents join our fight to have standards returned to the classroom...teaching curriculum only, and "teaching to pass the E.Q.A.O. or Ontario Literacy Test" is jeopardizing the lifelong learning of Every student in Ontario.
Please sign our Petition, and DEMAND that the Ministry of Education, in the Province of Ontario, include Spelling Tests, Cursive Handwriting ( beginning in Grade 3), and include Manners and Social Skills as Mandatory subject matter, into the regular framework of schools, beginning in 2014.
Lastly, we strongly suggest including all Stakeholders into round table discussion regarding implementation of these important items.
Our children's education is NOT for sale.
Thank you for your support. Our children's futures are at stake.
