E-Mail Communication Between Teachers and Parents

The Levittown School District currently does not have a policy in place to provide parents with teachers’ district email addresses.  Many districts on Long Island provide parents with teachers e-mail address to allow for open and more effective dialog between parents and our children's educators.  Currently, the only way to contact a teacher in the district is to either place a phone call and leave a message with the main office, or to write a note and send with our children.

The district currently provides all faculty members district email accounts.  The district also provides several on-line tools for students and parents such as the parent portal and the remote desktop services.  All parents should be able to communicate with teachers using on-line methods.  This would speed up communications between and make it more convenient for both teachers and parents.

We are asking for all of the Parents of the Levittown School District to sign this on-line petition telling the Board of Education to discuss this matter with the public and implement a district wide policy providing parents with email addresses of teachers.  During back to school night I asked one of my kids teachers if I could communicate with her via e-mail and I was told that the district does not want the teachers giving out their email addresses.  It's time for this policy to change.
