As parents, teachers, and longtime volunteers of OCCS, we are concerned about the integrity, the healthy growth, and the quality of education under the leadership of the current Board. It has come to our attention that The Board is not functioning effectively, lacks of transperancy in their communication, and is not following a democratic system in their decision making process:
- Registration and the start of school were delayed for the school year 2012-2013 due to the Board’s inability to agree upon a principal.
- The continued turmoil has led to the resignation of THREE board members, including Dr. Lin Xu, the head of the board, and Dr. Minru Li, a co-founder and long time volunteer of OCCS. Each resigning member explained their reasons of resignation, addressing to not only the Board, but to the OCCS parents and teachers. However, their resignation letters were never distributed. Instead, the Board crafted their own communication. What are they afraid of sharing? (please see the attached resignation letters of the Board members).
- The Facility project to purchase a permanent home for the school failed due to the Board’s inability to clearly communicate the vision for the future of the school as well as their inability to assume responsibility for the implementation of the Project.
- OCCS Graduation standards that have been implemented and approved by the OCCS Administration team for years was arbitrarily changed this year by a few Board members without explanations.
We live in a democratic country. We have the right to know what is going on with our school and its leadership team. Where are they leading us? Per OCCS By-law 4.8, we are collectiing signatures to call a General Assembly. For the future of our students and the healthy development of our school, please sign this petition.
