We need to keep the Massachusetts sales tax to 6.75% and use the governor's proposed cut of 1.75% to permanently fund the Department of Education and Care.This proposed 1.75 percent of the sales tax would provide $1 billion to $2 billion to DEEC.
Massachusetts currently has 440,000 children 5 and under, but the state provides early education and care subsidies for only 30,000 of these children. More than 30,000 children are still on the waitlist and parents are having a hard time finding or keeping their jobs because they can't afford daycare. By investing in early childhood education, then we can ensure that more children are getting high quality care and we can help parents keep their jobs.
