Bring Full Day Kindergarten to Sparta

About 90% of New Jersey public schools will have Full Day Kindergarten in the Fall of 2012. Why not Sparta?

Most of the state will have a full-day to meet the National Core Curriculum Standards, while Sparta will only have 2 1/2 hours to do the same. How will we compete?

Children who attend kindergarten 2 1/2 hours a day get 40-50% less instruction than full day kindergarten and must master the same skills.

Full Day Kindergarten
-provides time for activities that address the academic, physical, social and emotional needs of the whole child
-provides higher long-term achievement for students
-allows time to address the standards and meet diverse learning needs
-cuts down on the transitions for the young child providing a more stable and less stressful environment
-allows more time for small-group teaching and individualized instruction
-allows children and teachers time to explore topics in depth
-allows for social skill development from longer peer group interaction of the children
-provides more opportunity for children to develop their own interests
-provides a more relaxed atmosphere and more time for creative activities

We are asking the Board of Education to make Full Day Kindergarten a priority within the existing budget.

Let's give our children the same opportunity for success as 90% of the state!
