We are concerned that the quality of education at HC Storm will suffer due to the changes announced for the 2013/2014 school year by the principal of that school. (See http://hcs.bps101.net/node/5338 for Principal's Message.)
We ask that BPS101 reconsider its plan to enclose what is now known as the 1st grade pod and the 2nd grade pod. Adding rooms for intervention at the expense of the children whose teachers use this space every day to supplement the classroom experience can’t possibly be the ideal solution for H.C. Storm.
We ask that BPS101 reconsider its plan to use the art and music rooms as regular classroom space in 2013/2014. The art and music teachers at HC Storm cannot teach as effectively in student classrooms compared to rooms customized for their subject. Furthermore, the remaining 5 elementary schools in our district will have dedicated classrooms for art and music.
The district has known about some of these changes since December 2012 when the principal of HC Storm communicated to the school's teachers. The first time that the principal sent an announcement regarding these changes to all parents was on May 22, 2013.
We ask BPS101 to explain to parents the factors contributing to the space issues at HC Storm.
We ask BPS101 to demonstrate how the district has involved teachers in resolving the space issues at HC Storm.
We ask BPS101 to actively involve parents in a new solution for 2013/2014 in resolving the space issues at HC Storm.
