In a rapidly changing society we as a nation and state need to focus on ways to prepare our children for the future. In order to do this we need to ensure that they are regularly attending school. Statistically speaking, students who are not consistently attending have a higher chance of dropping out which ultimately leads to a negative impact on both the state and national economies. If we can create a bill in Colorado that focuses on government funded assistance programs being cut if students are not in attendance regularly, then we can increase the percentage of students that are college and career ready. It can be noted that other states such as California have implemented a similar bill entitled 1996 Welfare Reform Bill AB 1542 Chapter 270 which requires all recipients of temporary assistance to needy families make sure their children are in school.
