Our son, Justin is currently at Lorraine Elementary School going into the 4th grade. We have been so pleased with the school and have high hopes for the future for him as well as many of our Neighbors kids.
Unfortunately many of us in the Deer Run, Deer Forest subdivision have a huge dilemma on our hands for High School. We are all very frustrated in the fact that our kids go from Kindergarten through 8th Grade with all the same children that they are friends with from Lorraine and Davis Middle and then only our neighborhood and the few surrounding on our side of Oglesby Bridge Road are zoned for Salem High School. Why would anyone want or expect our kids to all of a sudden switch to a zone that doesn’t include any of the children they have been classmates/friends with for 9 years? Most of the children who attend Lorraine and Ray Davis are zoned for Heritage High School. In those crucial teen years it is very hard to start over and try to make new friends or even feel like you fit in when you are with all new kids. I know, because I had to do it when my family moved from the West coast to the East coast at that age. It was awful!
It makes more sense for our kids in the Deer Run, Deer Forest Neighborhoods to follow along with the rest of the Student Body and be rezoned for Heritage High School. We all want what is best for our kids.
Please consider rezoning the area of Deer Run, Deer Forest to coordinate with the Lorraine /Davis zoning for Heritage High School. We have all looked into other options for our kids for High School but most of us believe in the Public school system and would like our children to graduate from the Public School system.
I have gathered Signatures and Addresses from the residence of Deer Run, Deer Forest and surrounding of those who would like to petition for rezoning.
