I want you all to close your eyes. Think back to your childhood. Maybe you see your elementary school playground, maybe your favorite teacher, or even that little boy or girl who gave you the butterflies. But for some, their memories consist of being bulled. Open your eyes. When I was younger, I used to get teased all the time for things I couldn’t even control. I was teased from things like the color of my skin, to little things like how my mom did my hair in the morning. I remember coming home crying every single day. That is why this topic of bullying in elementary school is close to my heart--I don’t want any child to experience the things I did.
Many of us have experienced bullying, or have even been bullied throughout our lives. And in the future, we may have kids--we want those kids to live normal, happy lives, free from harm, right? That is why we must be informed of this problem so that we can create a healthy, loving, safe environment for the future generation.
I propose that an anti-bullying class should be mandatory for all elementary schools--for teachers, parents, and students. A class that can inform teachers and parents on how to stop bullying, comfort a bullied child, and take action. Being educated is the first step.
