Hiring a Fourth First Grade Teacher for Mayo Elementary School

Currently, Mayo Elementary School is projecting  they will have 3 first grade classes (2 classes with 25 students each & 1 class with 24 students) next year. The current budget allots for the the hiring of only one additional teacher for a total of 3 first grade teachers. Studies have shown that smaller class sizes (20 or less) in earlier school years have been linked to higher rates of students taking college entrance exams, higher test scores on those tests, as well as improved academic performance in all subsequent grades.  Mr. Greubel supports the hiring of a Fourth First Grade Teacher to support a lower class size.  

 We, the concerned parents of Mayo Elementary School students want to petition the Anne Arundel County Council to hire a Fourth First Grade Teacher for the 2013-2014 academic year.
