Dr Antonio Garcia is a visiting professor at The College at Brockport. He is also a presidential fellow selected out of a pool of 400 applicants in 2010. He works in the Delta College department at the school in addition to being involved in many things including coaching hockey, Philosophy Club, Rock n' Roll Club, organizing many events and being a Faculty in Residence. He is also very involved with the Living Learning Communities.
There really is no way to describe Antonio. If you ask anyone about him, the answer is pretty much the same. He is a crazy redhead who has extremely strong views and is passionate about teaching. His extreme dedication to his students, however is what really sets him apart. It is very evident that his main concern in everything he does is his students. He bases his classes around what the students want to learn and is always there when anyone needs him (even at 2:30 am when you're stuck on a paper that isn't even for his class.) He also has brought a lot of good to the school in general- especially the Delta College Program and Philosophy Club. His classes are always filled within the first 5 minutes of the first day of registration. I don't think people really realize how much he does for us. We are very lucky to have someone so completely dedicated and valuable here at Brockport. Dr Garcia has changed the lives of many of his students.
In addition, Delta College is hosting the (IJZS Conference 2012) on "Neo-Liberal Perversions: Fantasy and Gaze" Philosophy Conference this April. Featured in this conference will be many world-renowned philosophers including Slavoj Zizek, Jodi Dean, Joan Copjec and Paul Taylor. This conference is projected to have over 400 people, bringing in a revenue of roughly $30,000. It is also a Verso event. The entire conference was created and organized by Dr Antonio Garcia alone.
Dr Garcia is the reason so many of us are actually interested in our Delta classes, the reason we stand by Delta as a whole. Without him, I can personally guarantee that students will lose interest in Delta and the program will perish.
