We ask the Queensland Government, specifically the Premier and Education Minister to reconsider closing primary and secondary schools in Queensland.
Closing schools, particularly in the middle of the school year, is disruptive and counter-productive.
All schools have variations in numbers, they have periods of low enrolment and periods of high enrolment. If these schools are sold off, and the land sold to build houses, where are the children from those houses going to go? This is an extremely short-sighted move. In addition to this, many of these schools have had substatial investment in infrastructure recently (some are in progress currently) and spending millions of dollars on schools only to close them literally at the same time seems utterly ridiculous.
Some of these schools are small, but, are specialised, or cater to 'different' students. For example, schools which accept children who are LGBT, schools who make them feel safe because they ARE small schools.
Some of these schools have special education Units, the closure of which will cause extreme distress to those students if they are forced to uproot from the school they have come to know.
PLEASE SIGN AND HELP US keep our schools. Even if this doesn't personally affect you - please still sign because next time it might be your school, or affect your family or friends.
Please, Mr Newman, Mr Langbroek and all the other members of the Queensland Legislature - PLEASE don't disrupt our children's education.
We love our schools and want to keep them.
