HMRC have shifted their focus from large MNCs, who pay minimal taxes and take advantages of loopholes in the law, to instead target voluntary-run community sports clubs. They aim to take advantage of these community organisation's naivety in tax law to force them to pay upwards of £5,000 pounds in penalties and back taxes. A move that will bankrupt most amateur clubs. They have started this process by targeting amateur cricket clubs.
These clubs are guilty of nothing more than providing a small amount of pocket money to overseas players for helping out with coaching young players (who receive little to no sports education in the state school system) - seriously we are talking sums of £20-£30 per week. Or paying for an overseas' player's airfare. They now face the prospect of their entire club being bankrupted.
PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO PREVENT HMRC FROM DESTROYING OUR COMMUNITY SPORTS CLUBS.
