Stop Edgewood from closing!

Recently the Pottstown School Board voted to close Edgewood Elementary school beginning the 2013/2014 school year and begin redistricting at the end of thecurrent 2012 school year. The Board's decision was based upon Edgewood's location ("it is not in the heart of a neighborhood") and the resale value. However, as a taxpayer in Pottstown, people need to be aware that taxes will still increase to enable the school district to renovate and add on to the existing 4 elementary schools. The Board has estimated costs for renovating the elementary schools; actual costs will not be known until contractor bids are solicited and work actually begins.
The Board estimates a savings of $437,000 to close Edgewood and renovate the  4 remaining schools. If you factor in the costs to have your children bused to a different school and the costs to have the modulars removed, any savings the district expects to see will not create a savings to the district, but instead will increase costs to the taxpayer. Bottom line, you end up paying higher taxes and busing fees, in addition to the stress your child will endure during the transition of attending a new school with or without their current friends. Voice your disapproval to the Board as a parent and/or a taxpayer by signing the petition below.
