The City of Buffalo and the Medical Campus Neighborhoods (Perry, Fruitbelt, Cold Spring) are on the move and turning heads. Dramatic initiatives are taking place to build our medical corridor and enhance the quality of life for nearby residents. The Fosdick Field Restoration Project is yet another important piece of this resurgence.
In 1977, Fosdick Field was eliminated from the Fosdick-Masten School Campus (now City Honors School at Fosdick-Masten Park) when the City of Buffalo ran Fosdick Street through the middle of the school campus and housing was placed upon the field. This event not only eliminated a green space that was an important resource for the children of the neighborhood and school, it radically altered the aesthetics of the historic Fosdick-Masten Park school building which is on the National Register of Historic Places. By 2009, the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority had stopped use of the housing on the land and eventually initiated demolition.
The Fosdick Field Restoration Project seeks to eliminate Fosdick Street and restore the athletic field that was once a part of the school's full campus. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to undo a questionable planning decision of the past and give the children of our neighborhood and school district green space for the future. By signing this petition, you are letting our City, State and HUD leaders know that you support an expedited reunification of the full Fosdick-Masten Park campus and restoration of Fosdick Field.
