The Cumberland Town Council has indicated that it may renege on its agreement to pay the remaining $290,000 it owes the Cumberland School District. As parents and citizens of the town of Cumberland it is imperative that we make our voices heard. We must speak up for our children and our future and insist that the council follow through and honor their agreement. I encourage all concerned citizens to attend the upcoming town council meeting on Wednesday, May 1st beginning at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are held in the "Everett “Moe” Bonner, Jr. Council Chambers, Town Hall, Second Floor, 45 Broad Street, Cumberland, RI 02864.
Following on the heels of this matter will be the upcoming School Committee Budget Proposal. If the council cannot honor a previous agreement, what hope do we have that they will fund our schools moving forward? Cumberland has been taking strides in improving education under the leadership of Dr. Philip Thornton, but we can only be as successful as the support we receive from the community at large.
Please sign this petition, include your own comments to add weight to this petition and encourage your friends and neighbors to sign it as well. To under fund our schools is underinvest in our town's future.
