Our sex education requirements need some adjusting. It is about time for our sex education curriculum to include information about Date Rape.
- What is Sexual Consent?
- What do you do if you suspect a date rape is happening or has occurred?
- What are examples of victim blaming?
Also important to include into the curriculum are opportunities for class discussions about how the media, in all it's forms (magazines, newspapers, TV, movies, video games, social media...) influences societal beliefs regarding body image and gender roles.
The current sex education requirements for California public schools may be viewed at the website: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/se/faq.asp
It includes teaching children objective medical information about contraception and STD's. This is certainly important information, and needs to be retained.
If you think that educating more teachers and children about date rape by adding this information to the California sex education requirements will have a positive impact on reducing the incidence of date rape, please join me in signing the below petition.
Thank you!
