For over 5 years, there has not been a single German language class that has been offered at California State University Northridge (CSUN). There are classes in Italian, Japanese and Spanish but there has literally been no funding towards a German language program of any kind.
During my freshman year, I really looked for something to learn better and master, and German was an excellent class since I knew a fair amount and had the passion and drive to continue learning and excelling in it. However, since that Spring, the class and all other German language classes were taken off the class roster and nobody has seen or heard from them since.
I would like to change that and bring the classes back so that CSUN could offer it again as part of a major or minor program of some sort. With the help of the German American Student Association and considerate faculty members, we can bring the classes back into the class schedule for registration and enrollment. Germany and German people have been immensely influential over the course of history and it is a well known fact that over 100 million people in the world speak German which makes it one of the most spoken languages in the world and considerably important for dealing in business, education and politics. It's time we give students an opportunity to learn one of the most influential languages in the world once again.
