We are residents and families of the Adena Local School system and we would like it known that we support the school board, the administration, and the entire teaching staff both in their handling of the incident on March 4th in one of the first grade classrooms and in the day to day order and administering of education to the children enrolled in this school system. Together they have done an exemplary job in maintaining the discipline and structure needed to effectively educate our children.
With regard to the March incident, we would like to see common sense prevail and in our opinion, even if there was an accidental scratch by a teacher, it does not warrant a teacher losing their job/profession or criminal conviction. Doing so makes a mockery of true protection of the innocent which is of utmost importance especially when dealing with the children of our community.
Good teachers play pivotal roles in many children's lives. We have serious concern that situations such as this will diminish the morale of our current teaching staff and will empty future pools of potentially great teachers who will choose other career paths because of the simple fear of being where this teacher is today.
This type of action cost our district time, attention, and resources that we feel should be going towards the education of all our children.
This is a teacher with an excellent 12+ year teaching history. In our opinion she has become a victim of personal slander and media sensationalism. We feel it is time for the silent majority to stop being silent and take a stand against the absurdity of situations such as this.
