Young children are constantly committing suicide, sinking into depression, running away and self harming and so much more because of BULLYING. Bullying is not a laughing matter and is important. Not many people want to talk about this issue in the hope that it'll just disappear - but it only makes it worse.
The victims are the ones that seem to get dealt with rather than the bullies. The victims have to have mentoring and are often not treated with the sensitivity and respect they deserve. They are made to feel as if they are the problem and is if they are burdening the adults who are "sorting out" the issue. They are often forced to move classes and even move schools in some cases whilst the bully's or in most cases bullies' schedules aren't interrupted. The worst punishment a bully gets is suspension - which isn't exactly a punishment now is it? Kids love having time off school and it's not making the bully feel any remorse for what they've done. It makes them fell important as they are getting attention. Meanwhile the victim is emotionally scared for life and the experiences they've had with bullies has a huge impact on their actions and they way they approach life in the future.
Most children, especially adolescents, feel as if they can't tell anybody about the problem. They feel as if their situation is unimportant as so many people brush bullying under the carpet. The vast majority of teachers don't know how to deal with it and often the situation isn't fully dealt with.
What I am asking is for you to have a backbone not follow the crowd by ignoring this problem.
By signing this petition the following will happen:
Stricter punishments for bullies:
First offence = they are permanently moved away from the victim and the rest of the other bullies if there is more than one culprit. Bullies are not allowed any privilages such as attending school discos and trips. They are not allowed to make contact with the victim or the rest of their bullying friends. If they fail to stick to this rule they are expelled permanently.
Second offence = they are permanently expelled and so the other bullies if there are any culprits involved.
Staff are educated on how to handle bullying:
It will be compulsory for teachers to go on a course to be taught how to handle bullying - no matter how long they've been in the job.
At teacher training college it will be compulsory for students to be taught how to handle bullying.
Victims are treated with respect
It is prohibited that the victim's routine is interrupted and they are treated with the sensitivity and respect they deserve. They have the option to have mentoring at the school if they wish but this should not affect their daily school life too much.
You can change some one's life for the better if you sign this petition. Please, show your support and help to crack down bullying.
