To Mr. Tom Whitworth and the Darlington Board of Trustees:
The recent press release developed by the Darlington Public Relations department
promoting Ms. Overberg's article on LGBTQ literature has caused significant concern
within the Darlington family. The release, and its continued featured presence on the
Darlington website, suggests that the school condones Ms. Overberg's conclusions.
The undersigned families respectfully assert that those conclusions are counter to
Darlington's Judeo-Christian background. Furthermore, we do not believe they are at all
relevant to shaping men and women of sound character. A discussion of sexual lifestyle
has no place in the value system that Darlington encourages, and that we as Christian
parents are trying to instill.
We understand that there is much debate in the broader society regarding sexual
lifestyle choices. Our children will have to engage in that debate in due time. In the
meantime, the undersigned parents are committed to teaching traditional Judeo-
Christian views on this matter, and we ask that Darlington School share in that
commitment. Fidelity to these teachings is a serious matter and, simply, can not be
threatened using the cloak of "diversity" or "inclusiveness".
We look forward to a response from the Darlington leadership on this matter.
Respectfully Yours,
