Stop the reorganization of the First 15 days of School

Every school year on the 15th day students and classes are uprooted and re-arranged. Everyone is just getting situated with the New Year, new classmates, new students, and new grade then we is all hit with this "15 day Reorganization". This is tough on the students and teachers. Kids are just getting comfortable with classmates and their teacher when this hits. They go through enough change already at the start of the year and adding this seems unfair.

The only reasoning I've ever gotten about why this is done is due to registration. Well typically the only "new" registrants are Kindergarteners and some new students just moving to the area. I don’t see how this small fraction causes such a huge shift. Last year not only were classes moved and converted, but also staff was let go. This is just insane. If there are 90 first graders in the preceding school year, then there would be approximately 90 second graders in the New Year. They should be able to assign classrooms accordingly without having to re-arrange mid start up. Many other districts in the Bay Area are able to assigns classes prior to school starting, and not "Reorganize" on the 15th day. I do not see why Hayward should have any problem doing this as well. If the budget crisis is playing the major factor, then an option they should look into is requesting volunteers to simply group the grades and alphabetize for easy access to school staff when classrooms are assigned. When I attended Hayward High we were required to have so many hours of volunteer work. What better way to volunteer then to help the younger generation grow in a positive manner! Even parent volunteers could help. I know donating a couple hours of my time to benefit my son would be no problem whatsoever. If we don't speak up for our kids and get them the best education they can possibly get, who will?

I believe keeping the classrooms from start to finish will not only benefit the students, but the teachers as well. A happy and stable learning environment is the most productive.
