I have worked as a traffic control person for several years and as a company driver for even longer, so I have spent lots of time on the road and this is a "no brainer" to me. Turning right on red lights is dangerous, that's why in many places around the world including Quebec you can not turn until the light goes green. In many spot in Toronto they already have signs saying "no right on red" this makes it safer for both the intersecting traffic and pedestrians trying to cross. And I see the dangers all the time, people racing to a red light in the right lane with their heads turned to the left to see if anyone is coming, and they roll over the lines without even looking the other way. Even though your supposed to stop before the line and then pull out to turn right - nobody does. I have surprised many drivers by tapping on their passenger windows while their sitting blocking the cross walk looking left. Stats from 2006 show that in Ontario more than half of pedestrian fatalities were in marked intersections. This is a simple way to save lives. Make it "NO rights on reds".
