1. The CCBOE is proposing to rezone our current elementary school from Berry to Barnhart Elementary. This displaces approximately 99 kids in our community.
2. Unfortunately, the ratings for Barnhart Elementary are not as good as Berry’s. Although we'd like to see all Charles County Schools do better, placing more kids at Barnhart will only worsen the situation. Placing an additional 99 kids at a school that may be under some stress seems ridiculous.
3. ALL homeowners in our community pay approx. 10K in extra school taxes. This tax was imposed on all new constructions in Charles County after 2003. We deserve great schools. Also, for all the money we pay, where are the new schools? Or why not zone us to Wade, which is another good school and right across the street!?
4. Rezoning our schools may affect the value of our homes negatively. Potential buyers with young children many likely be turned off because of the new school zone.
5. The Bottom Line - It is unfair to treat our children like ping pong balls, displacing them to a different school in order to create space for people who have not even moved into Charles County yet!!! Why not zone future residents to Barnhart instead of moving current students around? Because they believe residents won't complain. Let's show the CCBOE that we care about our children and their education, and we won't be treated like 2nd class citizens. Let's get this petition signed!
