On March 20, 2013, Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has decided with a 4-3 vote to revoke the American Indian Model (AIM) Schools charter. Revocation will take effect June 30, 2013. AIM Schools will move forward and appeal to Alameda County.
American Indian Public Charter School was ranked among the best in the state, achieving an Academic Performance Index (API) score of 990 in 2011. According to The Washington Post, American Indian Public Charter School was ranked 42nd in the nation in 2012. According to Newsweek, American Indian High School was ranked 32nd in the nation in 2012. With so many OUSD school failing, OUSD has not examined its own problem and yet OUSD has voted to close the best school in Oakland, the best school in the state, and the best school in the nation. Students, parents and teachers are outraged by OUSD decision!
Save American Indian Model Schools. We ask Alameda County Board of Supervisors to overrule OUSD decision and continue to keep AIM schools open!
