Head Start gives educational options to low-income kids, but as many as 70,000 children will no longer have these options because of sequestration and related cuts.
The entire country is being affected. Tennessee and Florida have to stop their bus operations. Indiana is losing entire classrooms. And Washington will lose money for their program for children for disabilities and the food program. The Spokane Head Start alone has 900 families with 1,000 on the waiting list.
Preschool is crucial. A Center for American Progress study revealed that children who don't go to preschool or are involved in early education have a 70% higher chance of being arrested for violence, a 40% higher chance of being a teen parent, and are 25% more likely to not stay in school.
Please tell the U.S. Department of Education to protect Head Start!
